Theory: Two Handed Tapping Origin?

A Happy-Tappy Question --
(See 'comments' link for Answers)

ok, i have had a broken string on my guitar for 2 weeks (getting one tomorrow), and i was trying to play the interlude to Between the Buried and Me's "White Walls", and it goes like:

|-----------------------------|--7------10--------10-12-|
||o---------------8-10-----|-----8-------8---------------|
||-------11---7----------9-|-------9--------9------------|
||-----9----9----------------|------------------------------|
||o-7------------------------|------------------------------|
||o---------------------------|------------------------------|

|-12-------8-7----------|------------------------------------||
|-----8----------8-------|----------------12-13-10-12--o||
|--------9----------7-9-|------------9-----------------------||
|-------------------------|--10-9-7--------------------------||
|-------------------------|-----------------------------------o||

But ive been doing this (because of broken string): (T= tap note with right, H= hammer "from nowhere with left eg tap with left hard)

T H T H T
|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|
||o---------------8-10-----|--t12p8----t15p8-----t15s17---------|
||-------11---7----------9-|-----------9----------9---------------------|
||-----9----9----------------|---------------------------------------------|
||o-7------------------------|---------------------------------------------|
||o---------------------------|---------------------------------------------|

T H T
|-------------------------------------|------------------------------------||
|--t17p8----t13s12p8----------|----------------12-13-10-12--o||
|-----------9----------------7h9---|------------9-----------------------||
|-------------------------------------|--10-9-7--------------------------||
|-------------------------------------|-----------------------------------o||

and i was wondering, do you think this is how tapping originated, or am i just making do?
ignore T's and H's, they were misplaced, tab was too long

One Response to “Theory: Two Handed Tapping Origin?”

  1. right-hand tapping is an old classical guitar technique. It was appropriated by rock guitarists. Rory Gallagher and Ace Frehley did it before Van Halen, but the earliest I have heard on record is Hendrix.
