Although the Chapman Stick company offers some instruments with various numbers of strings, we’ll here compare instruments with the full twelve strings. We’ll therefore compare a standard Chapman Grand Stick with the simplest Mobius Megatar Touchstyle Guitar, the TrueTapper Eclipse.

You may be pleasantly surprised by the TrueTapper Eclipse, when compared feature by feature with the Chapman Grand Stick.

(In another article here you can compare two identical MP3 recordings of Chapman Stick and Mobius Megatar instruments. Your eyes, your ears, your good sense, and your pocketbook will make it very clear.)

I have a beautiful 2007 Megatar Truetapper made from maple, featuring the world famous Bartolini pickups. This is one sweet tapper. It comes with a gig bag, flight case, lap bar and megstrap. The instrument is in new condition having been played only a few times and stored in its hardcase. This would cost upwards of $1700 new, I will let it go for $1500. I am also offering 10% off for to any registered Tappistry.org member. Please vistit my site at www.oaklandaxefactory.com for purchasing info. Email me through the store to request the 10% off coupon. Thanks

2000 Megatar MaxTapper Dual For Sale

I have decided to sell my Megatar MaxTapper Dual (this is not the midi-enabled one in my Videos). I need money to cover the costs of building my own tapper and to purchase some needed equipment, specifically a planer.

The MaxTapper was made in June 2000. It has the Bartolini pickups, Gaph Tech “string saver” nut and saddle, Rosewood fingerboard, and what I believe is a Mahogany body. I am the second owner. The first owner hardly played it and neither have I, so the frets are in good condition. The finish is a little cloudy at the headstock and on the sides.

The only modification I have made is moving one of the strap buttons to my preferred location. As a result there is an extra screw hole. Comes with the softshell gig bag and a stereo cable.

Asking $1,000 + shipping (probably around $50.00 via USPS Priority Mail)

Alexander cuts the Gordian Knot, by Jean-Simon...Image via Wikipedia

Sean Malone first came to national attention as the bassist for the band Cynic, and on bass and Chapman Stick published a CD known as ‘Gordian Knot’. Somewhere in the realm of rock, metal, and prog. And later his ‘Emergent’ CD received rave reviews as well.

Part of the success is due to the stellar lineup. On Emergent, he enlisted top-rank musicians Bill Bruford and Dean Reinert for percussion, and Jim Matheos, Paul Masvidal, Steve Hackett, and Jason Gobel on guitar. Malone held down bass and Chapman Stick duty.

Outstanding. And, it is mild. Oops- that’s ‘wild.’ And, it is wild.

I’m from Canada looking for a grand stick or regular chapman stick. I have no experience with the instrument thus far but looking to get into it. Don’t have a whole lot of money thats why I don’t have a new one I guess. Doesn’t matter what type of wood or pickups etc. it has. Just looking for a stick always wanted to get into it but going through school right now don’t have a lot of money. But contact me and maybe we can get something sorted out. Phone 1-(807)-275-8347 or e-mail light_darkness_good_evil@msn.com

Looking to purchase a used “tapper” instrument make and model are not of huge concern as I do not have prior experience on any model. Price will be the utmost deciding factor.

Thanks.

PayPal and cashier’s checks OK, or cash if you live in NY/NJ and want to pick it up or meet somewhere. I would cover the costs of shipping.

Some months back on Tappistry forum, A Mr. Ashworth asked other members about our least-expensive two-handed tapping instrument, the Eclipse.

He asked, “I’m just wondering if anyone here has played one of these instruments, because I’m wondering what it sounds like.”

A forum member named R.J. Goos from Fargo, North Dakota, replied –

I had possession of an Eclipse not long ago, and I made recordings to compare it with a Stick instrument that I had. Playing the same song on both of these tapping instruments, using the same settings on all the recording gear. Though it’s played rather quickly, and I made errors, I think you’ll get an idea of each instrument’s sound.

Thank you very much, Jay Goos!
