Looking for a good combo amp for bass that has a sound like Tony Levin from Peter Gabriel….any ideas?

A Happy-Tappy Question --
(See 'comments' link for Answers)

I realize that the player has a lot to do with it and so does the rest of equipment... but I have a Ibanex sw65 and it just sounds muddy to me. now I was looking for something 100watt or better with a 15. The Ibanez has a 12. Would this get rid of the muddy or would 2 10" speakers work better. Oh and the only thing I really want in an XLR out to go to the board.... this is basicly gunna be a stage monitor for me when I start playing out more....Thanks

  1. Levin is the greatest. Well, he uses Music Man basses and I think he’s currently using his old Ampeg amp.I use a Genz Benz 2×10" , 200 watt combo and it puts out plently of bass without the mud. Certainly, a larger speaker will put out more bass. I would play with your amp’s EQ before doing anything crazy.
