A Question from Reg:

"Where on the Mobius Megatar website can I compare the various pickup options for sound? Thanks!

Traktor replies:

"This is actually one of the most difficult things to do, because the amp and effects in general have a much more dramatic effect on the sound than the actual instrument you start with.

"And to compare them, you pretty much need to run all the samples through the same amp and effects. For comparison, the effects should be very minimal and the amps should be very typical and popular amps.

"Still, your own amp and effects will give you the largest amount of control to dial in the sound you want, with any instrument. (So don't go crazy. It's OK to pick whichever instrument by how it looks, for example, as you'll still be able to get just about any sound with your amp and effects.)

"Though, if you know that you want a bright, Nashville sound, for example, you might as well start with an instrument made from light-colored, bright-sounding maple, and one of our custom string-saddle sets (GraphTech 'TusQ') is good for maintaining brightness. Or alternately if you really want a warm Jazz tone, might as well start with the warm-sounding premium dark woods in the MaxTapper or ToneWeaver. Just so you're starting in the neighborhood where you want to live.

"As to recordings, we do have some older recordings where we attempted to provide comparison, here --

http://megatar.com/english/models/TrueTapper/truetapper.html

"The Eclipse sound is provided on the demonstration Video.

"And if you click MaxTapper and ToneWeaver links near page top, you can hear some recorded comparison sound clips.

"And one more thing ...

"If you want to compare the sound of a Stick, a Megatar, and a Strat, we do have a set of recordings where the sound chain is identical, and the song is identical. You'll find that sound comparison here --

"Hi, I was interested in trying a tap instrument primarily for playing Bach pieces with counterpoint and the like. So I think a good clean, non-twangy sound is what I'm looking for. Which model and/or options would you recommend for such a purpose?"

Traktor suggests:

"Among the Mobius Megatar basic instruments (light wood, TrueTapper series), either the Eclipse model (dual rail pickups) or the Storm model (world famous Bartolini pickups) would give you a lovely clean sound.

"The Dual Rail are custom 'flat top' pickups and produce a clear and fairly powerful sound. The Bartolini pickups are a premium pickup which manages to sound both very clear, and yet warm, and also is the quieter of the two pickups which helps to get a clear voice from the amp.

"Of course, if you like warmer sounds than either the MaxTapper or the ToneWeaver instruments, with the world-famous Bartolini pickups, will also provide a clear and yet warm sound, but the dark premium woods in the MaxTapper and ToneWeaver will give it a rounder and more jazz like sound, not quite as bright.

"Some like it bright. Some like it warm. Some like it hot.

"How do you like it?"

At Last! You can get guitar lessons for Chapman Stick and Mobius Megatar for FREE!

In fact, you can sign up to get a complete two-handed tapping method book at no cost. This method book can be used to learn to play Chapman Stick, Warr Guitar, or Mobius Megatar touchstyle musical instruments, as well as normal guitar or bass (with a little application).

For example, suppose you have The Stick, and you'd like a little help learning to play it. Well, we can help. For example ...

Some folks don't realize that the makers of Mobius Megatar are big FANS of Chapman Stick instruments! What? A big FAN of a competitor's instrument?

You bet! Why not?

The Stick is a TERRIFIC instrument, and loads of fun to play as well.

Now, look. We *ALSO* have made a lot of extremely-important *IMPROVEMENTS* on the design on the Stick's design, and we'd be happy to tell you about those. But that's not the point. The point is that this two-handed tapping method (largely developed by Emmett Chapman) is a huge step forward in creating music and having lots of fun.

And we've *ALSO* made some HUGE IMPROVEMENTS in the learning method. In fact, if you want to try using the simpler tuning that we recommend, and you use our method, you will discover that you can learn to play two times, perhaps three times as fast. And that makes learning fun.

But whichever instrument you have, and whichever tuning you have on the instrument, we can provide Chapman Stick music and Chapman Stick lessons, and we provide these, absolutely free, in the MegaTapper Newsletter.

Sure, we think the Megatar enhancements create a better instrument, easier to play and even better sounding. Sure we think that you can save $1000 or more. And if you can get more, get delivery faster, and save $1000 ... well, this doesn't take rocket science to figure out. It's just a good deal.

What's more, the revolutionary fast-learning method that we developed works equally well on Mobius Megatar or Chapman Stick instruments.

Yeah, sure, we'd be tickled if you played a Mobius Megatar, and you'd save money and get outstanding tone. But you know what?

If you play Chapman Stick music, we're still in the same family!

And so ... sign up for this great two-handed tapping newsletter today. The MegaTapper Newsletter brings free tapping lessons and news about two-handed touch-style around the world.

It's the Tappening Thing to do!

And here's the kicker ...

Because when you receive your second issue of the MegaTapper Newsletter, we'll send you a copy of our revolutionary fast-learning tapping method book, Easy Touch-Style Bassics, at no cost.

If along the way, something led you to buy a Chapman Stick, then hey! We salute you as just another member of the family. So here's to your Chapman Stick lessons, your Chapman Stick music, and your Chapman Stick video on youtube. Soon you'll be all over the place, and having a ball!

(And if you ever wish to upgrade to a Megatar, we'll be right here to help.)

The Chapman Stick is a high-quality electric guitar made especially for two-handed tapping. But what if there was another instrument even better?

Would you be surprised to discover the Mobius Megatar instrument has features and sound going beyond the Stick? Compare and decide for yourself ...

Stick Enterprises, the manufacturer of the Chapman Stick (TM) tapping instrument has instruments with seven to twelve strings.

But so as to compare apples to apples, we'll consider only the instruments with the full twelve strings, and that narrows it down considerably. We'll compare the only Stick Enterprises instrument with the full twelve strings, the Grand Stick, with the simplest Mobius Megatar instrument, The TrueTapper Eclipse.

You may be surprised to discover how impressively the inexpensive TrueTapper Eclipse compares with the Grand Stick, when compared feature by feature.
